Eight Migrations We Run for Microsoft 365
Every path into, or within, Microsoft 365, planned and delivered by TrustedTech’s Microsoft-certified architects
Google Workspace to Microsoft 365
Gmail, contacts, calendars, and Groups to Exchange Online. My Drive to OneDrive; Shared Drives to SharePoint Online.
Best for: teams consolidating ahead of a Google renewal.
Key consideration: mailboxes look smaller in Exchange and labels become folders.
Exchange Server to Exchange Online
Retire on-premises Exchange. Mailboxes, mail flow, and DNS move while Entra Connect keeps identities in sync.
Best for: retiring aging servers.
Key consideration: devices that relay mail via the old server stop sending until they are reconfigured.
File Server to SharePoint Online
File shares and NAS content into SharePoint and OneDrive with folder structure, metadata, and permissions preserved.
Best for: retiring file servers and VPN access.
Key consideration: long paths and unsupported characters need to be fixed first.
SharePoint Server to SharePoint Online
Modernize on-premises SharePoint into SharePoint Online with a site architecture built for how your teams work today.
Best for: intranet rebuilds.
Key consideration: custom code and web parts do not migrate automatically.
Slack and Legacy Chat to Teams
Slack, Webex, Zoom Chat, and Google Chat into Teams, with chat and channel history migrated where in scope.
Best for: keeping a searchable record.
Key consideration: chat is archived by default, and migration is scoped per project.
Tenant to Tenant Migration
Mailboxes, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, groups, and domains between tenants for mergers, carve-outs, and rebrands.
Best for: acquisitions, divestitures, and rebrands.
Key consideration: a domain lives in one tenant at a time, so cutovers are sequenced.
Consolidation & Optimization
Combine tenants, remove duplicate licenses, and reorganize SharePoint and Teams to make a single environment easier to secure.
Best for: estates with duplicate licensing.
Key consideration: the source tenant stays licensed until sign-off.
Identity & Endpoint Modernization
On-premises Active Directory and third-party identity providers to Entra ID; legacy MDM to Intune.
Best for: an Entra-led identity model.
Key consideration: federation is domain-wide, and device moves between tenants are not a Microsoft-supported Intune scenario.
Your Migration Deliverables
For Your Migration Deliverables: five deliverables your IT team walks away with and can reference, so your users can hit the ground running with your new solution.
- Migration Inventory and Mapping: Every in-scope mailbox, group, site, and drive sized and mapped before anything moves.
- Migrated Workloads: mail, files, sites, and Teams content moved with the metadata and permissions the migration path supports, plus a list of what did not move and why.
- Mail Flow and Domain Cutover: DNS routed to the destination with transport rules and distribution lists recreated.
- Post-Migration Validation Summary: source-versus-destination counts, error remediation, and sign-off documentation.
- Knowledge Transfer and Clean Handover: working sessions for your IT staff, documentation, and migration accounts removed.
Recent Migrations We Have Delivered
Three recent projects with clients anonymized. Each shows what we scoped, how we sequenced it, and where we planned for risk.
A cloud-only tenant consolidation, about 200 users
Mail, OneDrive, SharePoint, and three Teams with chat history, planned as one weekend cutover after pre-migration and delta passes. Users receive new cloud accounts, and the source tenant stays licensed until the final chat cleanup pass.
Google Workspace to Microsoft 365, about 900 active users
Three to four phased cutover groups after a pilot, with the primary MX record staying at Google until the final cutover. About 1,200 Windows devices follow into Intune, with three live workshops for end users.
Google Workspace with voice and identity work, about 100 users
About 3.2 TB of Drive data, JumpCloud federated to Entra ID, about 30 Google Voice numbers ported to Teams Phone, five Google Sites rebuilt as a SharePoint hub, and one week of hypercare after cutover.
What We Plan For, Workload by Workload
Every migration has edges. We list them in the scope, tell your users before cutover, and build the work around them.
Workload
- Mail cutover
- Data volume
- Gmail to Exchange
- Drive and SharePoint
- Teams chat
- Domains
- Hybrid and federated identity
- Devices
- Voice and Google Sites
- Older Exchange
- Easy-to-miss items
- Retiring the source
What to expect
- Mail cutover An agreed downtime window. Mail flow interruption beyond it is a tracked risk.
- Data volume Throttled transfer speeds set the calendar. Large archives stretch it most.
- Gmail to Exchange Labels become folders, Confidential Mode content is lost, some fields drop.
- Drive and SharePoint Permissions do not map 1:1, external links break, and long paths can fail.
- Teams chat Archive-grade: 30 days live, the rest searchable. Cleanup cannot be undone.
- Domains A domain cannot exist in two tenants at once.
- Hybrid and federated identity Sign-in can break until first password sync. Conversion takes up to 72 hours.
- Devices Tenant moves are not Intune-supported. Users re-register MFA and re-enroll iOS.
- Voice and Google Sites Porting takes 2–4 weeks. Google Sites are rebuilt by hand, no redirects.
- Older Exchange Printers, scanners, and apps that relay mail stop when the server retires.
- Easy-to-miss items Shared mailboxes, PST files, Conditional Access, and MFA registration.
- Retiring the source Decommissioning licenses, domains, and retention is easy to forget.
How we handle it
- Mail cutover We pre-migrate, run delta passes, lower DNS TTLs, and finish with a final pass.
- Data volume We size sources in discovery and quote a timeline after it.
- Gmail to Exchange We report counts both ways, brief users, and list known exceptions.
- Drive and SharePoint A pre-scan flags bad paths, you approve permissions, and we reissue links.
- Teams chat We scope chat per project, run off-hours passes, and validate results.
- Domains We sequence release and verification into the cutover plan.
- Hybrid and federated identity We disable source sync early, audit UPNs, and protect break-glass accounts.
- Devices We pilot first, export BitLocker keys, and plan one attempt per device.
- Voice and Google Sites We start porting at kickoff, document SMS gaps, and map every link.
- Older Exchange We deliver an SMTP relay inventory and correct Autodiscover.
- Easy-to-miss items We list each in discovery and confirm what is in scope.
- Retiring the source We scope it with you when you want it.

Microsoft 365 Migration Questions
How long does a Microsoft 365 migration take?
It depends on scope, not just user count. One project we scoped for about 30 users planned three weeks from assessment to stabilization. A 200-user cloud-only consolidation was planned as a single weekend cutover after pre-migration. Larger Google Workspace moves run in phased cutover groups over several months, and number porting for voice adds a carrier lead time of two to four weeks. These are planned durations from our scopes, not guarantees, and Microsoft throttling and your team’s availability can move them. Most projects like yours run four to six weeks, and discovery tells us where yours lands. Kickoff is typically within four weeks of signing.
Will my users have downtime?
Mail has a planned downtime window, usually a weekend. We pre-migrate the data, run delta passes, and finish with a final pass to keep the window short. Some users also need to sign in again, re-register MFA, or reconfigure Outlook and mobile mail, and we tell them before it happens.
What affects the scope and cost of a migration?
Complexity moves price more than headcount. The simplest scope is mail plus OneDrive. Adding SharePoint raises it, and Teams Voice, Intune, or complex SharePoint raise it the most. Mailboxes over 100 GB, shared mailboxes, domains, and tooling licenses also count. Clean discovery supports a fixed fee, while messy or unknown sources can push a project to time-and-materials.
Can you move faster?
Sometimes, at expedited pricing, after discovery. Small scopes can turn around quickly, but asking for faster does not make it possible. Data volume and Microsoft throttling decide that, and discovery tells us what is realistic.
We already started a migration. Can you step in?
Yes. You can bring us in mid-project, or use us in an advisory role where your team drives and we act as the safety net. Tooling costs still apply.
Is an Office 365 migration the same as a Microsoft 365 migration?
Largely, yes. Microsoft renamed several Office 365 plans to Microsoft 365, and we scope Office 365 tenant-to-tenant migration the same way, by workload and plan.
Can you migrate Teams chat?
Archive by default, and migration only where we scope it. When we migrate chat, fidelity is archive-grade rather than a native copy; guest chats and meeting recordings are not included; and Microsoft throttles chat migration, so it takes multiple passes. Some sources, such as Google Chat, are exported to archive files instead.
Where is my data stored?
Where your tenant is configured to store it. Microsoft Commercial Cloud does not guarantee storage in the United States unless configured for that. We confirm geography during assessment.
Do you support Microsoft 365 after the migration?
Yes, in two ways. Some scopes include a short hypercare period after cutover, such as one week of weekday coverage in our most recent Google Workspace scope. Ongoing support is separate, through Certified Support Services.
